Trump Issues Stark Warning to Zelensky as Peace Talks Stall
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of blocking peace efforts and putting Ukraine’s future at risk. In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that peace with Russia is within reach, but Zelensky’s refusal to compromise — particularly on Crimea — is endangering the country.
“Negotiate now or risk losing the whole country,” Trump wrote, blasting Zelensky’s continued stance that Ukraine will never legally recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea. He added that such statements are “inflammatory” and harmful to any meaningful negotiations.

Trump stressed the human cost of the ongoing conflict, stating that 5,000 Ukrainian and Russian soldiers are dying each week “for no reason.”
The former president’s comments came in response to an interview Zelensky gave to The Wall Street Journal, where he reaffirmed Ukraine’s position on Crimea. Trump questioned why Ukraine didn’t attempt to reclaim Crimea back in 2014 and criticized Zelensky’s unwavering position as unrealistic.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed Trump’s tone, suggesting the U.S. could withdraw from mediation efforts, saying, “It’s not our war.” Tensions escalated further as Trump’s envoy abruptly skipped scheduled peace discussions in London and headed directly to Moscow, frustrating U.S. allies.
British officials voiced concern over what they described as a chaotic shift in American foreign policy. One U.K. minister remarked, “The U.S. is messing up everything,” while former U.K. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace accused Trump’s team of worsening global instability.
