📰 Scott Jennings Reportedly Eyeing Senate Run — But Waiting on Trump’s Green Light
CNN contributor Scott Jennings, one of the network’s few prominent conservatives, is reportedly weighing a potential 2026 Senate run in Kentucky, possibly to fill the seat of retiring Senator Mitch McConnell. But insiders say Jennings won’t make a move without the backing of former President Donald Trump.
“If the president wants me, I’ll run,” Jennings allegedly told partygoers at a White House Correspondents’ Dinner afterparty, according to The Daily Beast. “If he wants somebody else, I’ll support that candidate.”
A seasoned Republican strategist, Jennings, 47, previously advised both McConnell and President George W. Bush. Now a familiar face on CNN’s “NewsNight with Abby Phillip”, Jennings has gained popularity for his articulate defense of Trump-era policies, often sparking viral debates with progressive pundits.
According to The New York Post, Jennings’ Senate aspirations are “certainly not fake,” despite his current contract with CNN, which was recently renewed with a notable pay increase, though he has not yet been offered his own show.
At a recent rally in Warren, Michigan, Trump acknowledged Jennings’ loyalty, saying:
“He defends me all the time on CNN, and he defends me really well, but he can’t go too far because he’ll get fired.”
Jennings’ potential candidacy could shake up Kentucky politics, especially with Trump remaining the most influential figure in the Republican Party. If Trump gives the nod, Jennings may emerge as a top contender to replace McConnell, a longtime GOP power broker.
