Major Military Scandal: U.S. Army Analyst Sentenced to 7 Years for Selling Secrets to China

In a shocking breach of national security, a 25-year-old U.S. Army intelligence analyst has been sentenced to seven years in prison after admitting to selling classified military information to an individual connected to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), in exchange for thousands of dollars.

The analyst, Korbein Schultz, a resident of Wills Point, Texas, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges on August 13, 2024, and was officially sentenced on April 23, 2025. Following the trial, Attorney General Pam Bondi strongly condemned Schultz’s actions, calling him a traitor to his country. FBI Director Kash Patel also used the case as a warning to others considering betraying the United States.

According to a statement from the U.S. Office of Public Affairs, Schultz engaged in a long-term scheme between May 2022 and March 2024, during which he knowingly passed dozens of sensitive military documents to someone acting on behalf of the Chinese government. The documents included export-controlled tactical and technical information, which is critical to U.S. national defense.

The report revealed that Schultz was paid approximately $42,000 in total for his cooperation with the Chinese contact. The sensitive information he provided included details on U.S. military exercises in South Korea and the Philippines, as well as lessons learned by the U.S. military from the Russia-Ukraine war that could be applied to Taiwan’s defense — a particularly sensitive subject in ongoing U.S.–China tensions.

In a public statement, Attorney General Pam Bondi said:

“This defendant swore an oath to defend the United States — instead, he betrayed it for a payout and put America’s military and service members at risk. The Justice Department remains vigilant against China’s efforts to target our military and will ensure that those who leak military secrets spend years behind bars.”

FBI Director Kash Patel added:

“This sentencing is a stark warning to those who betray our country: you will pay a steep price for it. The People’s Republic of China is relentless in its efforts to steal our national defense information, and service members are a prime target. The FBI and our partners will continue to root out espionage and hold those accountable who abandon their obligation to safeguard defense information from hostile foreign governments.”

Acting U.S. Attorney Robert E. McGuire of the Middle District of Tennessee also weighed in, emphasizing the danger posed by internal threats:

“Those who collaborate with America’s foreign adversaries put our country, and those who defend it, at grave risk. We will do whatever it takes to hold them accountable for their crimes. We proudly stand in support of our men and women in uniform and will work tirelessly to protect them from individuals like this defendant who would sell them out for a few bucks.”
